Dhakrani Village
Some major initiatives at Dhakrani:
A solid waste management system covering the entire village has been implemented. Two Tractor trolleys with cleaning teams have been deployed. Waste is collected from every household once a day. Two different coloured dustbins have been distributed to around 2000 households and the organic waste is segregated through a trommel machine and compost is generated thereafter. Compost produced is sold. Sewerage Project – The village was dirty with no drainage system. Dirty water was flowing out of houses on the village lanes. Therefore, a sewerage treatment project over five phases has been initiated. Sewerage network of pipes and two sewage treatment plants – 125,000 running ft of pipeline – has been laid.
MIF organizes monthly Multi speciality camps in Dhakrani where doctors from Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun examine and treat patients free of cost. 8140 people have been benefitted through 33 camps. Regular health checkup camps and immunization camps have also been organized in association with Bella Healthcare, Dehradun. Biweekly health camps are organized for women and children through Bella Healthcare – over 34,000 beneficiaries [13,417 beneficiaries for general health check-up and 20277 beneficiaries reached through health awareness] have been reached through 291 camps. 2370 children have been immunized in 30 camps.
A Life Skills Centre in partnership with Head Held High Foundation was started in November 2017. The Centre imparts employability training to rural youth in a 6-months intensive program. The Centre has been equipped with 10 computers, projector, furniture, etc. A trainer has undergone extensive training at the HHH training centre, in Bangalore. Training for the first batch of 26 youth was completed and 18 of them received confirmed job offers from local employers. The second batch of 26 youth started in July 2018. This program has helped parents and students to rise out of poverty and seek bright futures based on capabilities
A sanitary pad production unit has been facilitated in village Dhakrani by donating relevant machinery to a women’s group. The women from the village are making low cost sanitary napkins which they are selling among the women in the village and neighbouring areas. Over 38000 sanitary napkins have been produced so far. Park of approx. 1200 Sq. ft. laid near upcoming ITI and Anganwadi Centre. Various plants have been planted and Grass put. Benches have been put so that the community, especially the senior citizens can use the public space.
Three water purification units have been installed at three Government schools at Dhakrani Village preventing water borne diseases and ensuring better health for 900+ school students. A Science centre has been set up at Dhakrani High School with STEM Learning. A range of interactive and working science models has been installed in the school science lab. In an effort to connect with the community, teams of MLIC Dehradun employees and Agent Advisors visit households. The volunteers speak about waste management, cleanliness, hygiene and introduce the community to financial literacy. Volunteers have visited over 2500 households till date.
